This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Edgar Mason can see plainly that he is losing Agamemnon to Theodora now that she is improving; gifts, kisses and dinners are what Agamemnon gives to Theodora and Mason stands at the sideline watching. Agamemnon is torn between his feelings for Mason and his duty and guilt, when his brother, Menelaus, disappears his guilt doubles and he is determined not to let Theodora fall back into Pandarus' hands again. The Martian's are getting ready for their final push on Earth and Mason and Agamemnon have to discover just where the 'Crown of Towers' is by following random clues. Mason and Agamemnon must make a final sacrifice if they are going to save the world.

This is the conclusion of the Agamemnon Frost series and it definitely finishes with a bang. Mason and Agamemnon have had to revert back to master and servant, Agamemnon has to fulfill a duty that was arranged when he was very young and Mason knows that Agamemnon always does his duty. When Agamemnon's brother goes missing they both know something is wrong, but the Pandarus' plans for them fail when they don't act as planned and they have to face their biggest challenge yet when the Martian's plans move forward.

Well, we left Mason and Agamemnon at the end of 'The hollow Ships' with Theodora being placed in Agamemnon's care, now with Theodora improving Mason is left in emotional agony watching as Agamemnon seems to woe his fiancee. Agamemnon and Mason have to jump back on the case of the invading Martian's with very little to go on. Their relationship is in limbo with no way forward, but with the threat lurking and Mason unsure if Pandarus can still influence him they are stuck together longing for something that may never be realized.

I have really enjoyed this trilogy of historical sci-fi, of a difficult relationship that never quite got off the ground and a secret agency trying to save Earth. We finally see some happiness for both Agamemnon and Mason but it isn't without it's losses. We are taken on an adventurous journey as we finally come to the conclusion of the Martian invasion, it is an incredible descriptive final where rescue comes just in time. We are drawn into the turmoil that Mason feels as he watches from the sideline, we understand his sacrifice and we applaud his courage.

I recommend this to those who love historical science fiction, a race against time, miraculous rescues and a love that won't give up.

This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Edgar Mason has no choice but to embark on a new life as Agamemnon's partner and valet, it is a life he is coming to resent and love as it holds him close to the man he can not touch. Agamemnon has a duty to uphold and although he wishes things could be different he has a responsibility that can not be ignored. The two together must investigate the rumor of 'hollow ships' and finding Pandarus and discover that Theodora wasn't lost like they thought. Mason and Frost will find their bond tested as they embark on their mission.

This is a great continuation of the historical, science fiction storyline where Martian's are plotting the demise of Earth. Mason finds himself frustrated as his attraction to Agamemnon pulls and tears at him, in a society that doesn't approve of males loving males and is endangered by the martians Mason knows he can't act and that Agamemnon is bound by those same rules. When Agamemnon and Mason try to discover more about the 'hollow ships' they find themselves caught and narrowly escape destruction. The fate of the world rests on their shoulders and their relationship is still blurred.

Sometimes you come across a story where you don't really know where the characters really stand and this is definitely one of those stories. With Mason and Agamemnon, not only does the time they live in work against them, but the work they now both do does as well. Mason is a wonderfully written character and you can see the fight he has with himself over his longing for Agamemnon, that longing seeps through the pages and it is bittersweet being so close to the one he adores but unable to act on it. Agamemnon is harder to get a real feel for in his feelings for Mason, sometimes it is as though he really wants Mason but at other times it is like he is a blank slate.

As the story progresses we see the mechanics of what the Martians are doing and we are given some wonderful descriptions of the bleakness that mankind is heading for if they don't stop the invasion. Pandarus is certainly a resourceful Martian, but he just can't quite get a handle on Agamemnon, and his hold on Mason seems to be slipping further away. So we have the excitement of danger, explosions and a brief trip to the future with the added twist of the discovery that Theodora is alive and the Martians are planning more than just an invasion to take over the world.

I recommend this to those who love historical science fiction, great characters, a love being confined, hope and wishes and an ending that makes it clear this story isn't finished just yet.

Tristan's Despair by Lavinia Lewis

This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Tristan finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place when he meets his mate, while he is delighted to meet his mate he is horrified to learn that he is a reporter who is there to dig up the truth behind the fires that plagued the town. Joey is an ambitious reporter determined to get to the truth, but when he gets involved with local Tristan he discovers more than he bargained for. Tristan has to discover if he can trust Joey with the towns secrets and Joey has to decide if a story is more important than love.

This is a great addition to the Shifter's Haven series giving us a new couple with problems to solve and a storyline that weaves previous plots into this one. Tristan is feeling the weight of pressure from his brother and pack when he discovers his mate Joey, after all Joey is asking questions that they can't answer to a human, but Tristan doesn't want to deny his mate. Joey is instantly attracted to Tristan and thinks he knows one of the towns secrets, but it isn't long before he realizes his error. Joey knows he has a hard choice before him and although Tristan has come to mean everything to him, giving up his dreams is hard to do.

Tristan and Joey make a great couple and they do face some hostility at first because of Joey's job, but a mate is a mate and Joey's job isn't their only problem. We discover that the storyline from Pete's Persuasion lingers on with the discovery that the arsonist has sort protection from another pack, the news astounds the pack but Joey and Tristan have more to worry about when wolves attack them. We see both Tristan and Joey suffer from their decision and it takes them both long enough to pull their heads out of their arses and come up with a way to be together.

I did enjoy this story and enjoyed seeing the wolves of Wolf Creek again, seeing how they had moved on from the devastation that befell them in Pete's Persuasion and catching up with the hunt for Evelyn. The story is well written and a nice light easy read, there's a couple of tense scenes and some great sex scenes and it was also really nice to see that although there's still the instant attraction and the urge to mate, it isn't easy sailing for Joey and Tristan.

I recommend this to those who love shifters, a progressing storyline, great characters, a touch of danger, great sex, hot shifters and a brilliant ending.

This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Simon and Michael are back and their partnership as investigators is a lot easier than their relationship behind closed doors. As Simon and Michael come to terms with what they share, they still have work to do and they discover there was more to the 'Brown man' than they first realized. Picking up a case for missing paintings, their investigations lead to the discovery of a connection to Simon's family, and they stumble across a city-wide criminal ring. Throw in a secretive man called Moshe who won't leave them alone and they have an interesting couple of days ahead of them.

If you have read the previous stories in this series then you know that Michael is a confident man who is cheeky and cheery, but has found himself infatuated with an uptight man. You will also know that Simon is that uptight man who is still struggling with what Michael makes him feel, but he is becoming slightly more relaxed and not quite as grumpy as he portrays to be. Their adventures together usually ends with injury, capture and danger but they usually get their man and this story is no different with more characters adding to the intrigue.

As they work together on the new investigation we see how they compliment each other, but, it is still not easy especially when a figure from Simon's past sticks his neb in. The investigation is interesting and leads to a bigger investigation with Michael and Simon turning to Pinkerton's and making a deal. Moshe is a man with surprises and who keeps his secrets close to his chest, so close in fact that he makes Michael look like a blabber mouth, but if Moshe really wants Simon's co-operation then he has to learn to share.

I really liked this story and the progression of Michael's and Simon's relationship, although from the first story to now it has only been a matter of days it does seem longer and Simon's reticence adds to the overall effect of it being drawn out. I love the way that Simon works through what he is feeling rather than jumping in feet first and Michael seems to be getting Simon's nature better and backs off a little in this one, letting Simon come to him and make the first move. At times the story does seem to take place a lot in their heads as they think and dissect what is happening between them, and reliving certain couplings but it doesn't take away from what is going on around them. We also see how their relationship is heating up with a lot more sexual activity taking place with *gasp* Simon taking the initiative more.

I recommend this to those who love historicals, great characters coming to an understanding, an interesting investigation, secrets being revealed and an ending that is oddly hot and slightly touching.

Luki and Sonny are back home and Luki is suffering from the after effects of shooting a young guard during the rescue of their teenage nephew Jackie. Sonny is reaching the end of his patience as Luki seems to slip further away everyday and Luki can't seem to pull himself out of his downward spiral. When Sonny gets into trouble it brings Luki to awareness, and when Sonny sets off for his European tour Luki begins to seek the help that he needs. When Sonny becomes impossible to contact Luki begins to worry and sets off to find his missing husband, Sonny desperately needs his husbands help as an obsessed art agents plans for him turn deadly.

Sonny and Luki are back and this time Luki has to deal with PTSD before he can run to Sonny's rescue. Luki begins to realize that he has to improve and get help if he is to continue in his role of Sonny's protector and husband and the beginnings of his recovery comes just in time when he realizes that something isn't quite right. Sonny's dreams of an exhibit is Europe comes to fruition but it soon goes wrong when he notices that there is something wrong with his phone and email, and his agents behavior makes him wary.

This is another brilliant Vasquez and James story which delves into PTSD. Luki isn't the tower of strength that we have come to know and love, he was hit hard with the death of the young guard in Finding Jackie It was something he has done many times before but this time he feels guilt, but Luki can't get the image of green eyes out of his mind, he has tumbled into a world that is gray and suffers from nightmares. As he swims through the fog in his mind he ignores all around him, until he gets a wake up call and realizes what he is doing to Sonny. Sonny is as lovable as ever but he is struggling with Luki's illness, he feels helpless but knows nothing he is doing is helping, Sonny has tried all that he can to help Luki, but Luki refuses professional help and there is nothing that Sonny can do except love Luki. As the book progresses we see how both of the feel and although their love is strong and they would stand by each other through anything, Sonny can't put his life on hold forever and Luki gets the kick in the ass he needs to get help.

The book then shifts to the action part with Luki recovering enough to begin to function as a human being and realizing that something is wrong with Sonny in Paris. Sonny finds himself in trouble with no way out and Luki sweeps in like a vengeful angel with the help of an old flame. This is a really well written story that has us seeing strife in paradise as Luki struggles with his demons. We feel Sonny's frustration as he sees Luki fall under the weight of his demons and we are encouraged when Luki begins to fight back against the demons. But then comes the twisted man who wants Sonny for his own, and while Luki runs to the rescue he still has to fight against the PTSD that try's to pull him under.

I recommend this to those who love action Luki style, an incredible love, dealing with demons, danger, hot loving and a great ending.

Malachi (Lachi) is King of the vampires, created to save his race and bonded to a Seraphim, Laziel, it is his destiny to guide the vampires, but, the duty is wearing him down and without his angel to temper his dark yearnings he would lay waste to those that irk him. Laz adores his vampire, Lachi is his to protect but Laz loves Lachi with his every breath, a love that Lachi can't accept. With a rival vampire working with their enemies Lachi and Laz are about to face a challenge that the world may not survive.

Oh My God, this is a brilliant paranormal story that just blew me away. Lachi is being pressured to take a female mate and produce children, but he has no interest in females and only wants his angel. Lachi secretly loves Laz but refuses to say anything because he thinks he has too much darkness inside him. Laz would give anything to be able to love Lachi freely but knows Lachi would never accept his love or freely return it, he is caught in the web of his Creators making and can only take what Lachi offers. In the vampire world there are factions at work trying to bring Lachi to his knees but with the aid of others Lachi is trying to stop the plans, but finding proof is near impossible.

There are many things going on in this epic story that has you wondering how they are connected and the further into the story we venture the clearer the picture becomes, but there are still many unanswered questions at the remarkable Kindle throwing ending. We have two fantastic main characters in Lachi and Laz and believe me when I say that Laz has a very interesting surprise for you. We find out about Lachi's creation and his connection to Laz, we see a very interesting relationship between the two and some hot sex with a brief glossy overview of their BDSM relationship. But, this story is so much more than just Lachi and Laz, and I mean a lot more, as we are introduced to many more characters and little side story's that piques your curiosity.

While I would love to blather on and on about the storyline I won't, just because trying to fit everything in to a short review would completely do a disservice to this epic storyline. There are many characters that we get to know who seem to have their own stories to tell and we see brief flashes of these. Lachi's and Laz's story is complex enough without trying to dissect it to bring up different points.... but I have to say that the authors have woven everything together in such a way that it grabs your attention and won't let go, it fills you with excitement and frustration, has you lingering for that devouring powerful kiss and has you growling in righteous anger at the mechanics of an insane vampire. Oh by the way, the warning in the blurb about the ending is to be taken seriously!

I recommend this to those who love epic storylines, vampires and paranormals, an intense plot, great characters, devious intent, thwarting enemies, unspoken love and an ending that has you whimpering in protest as you squelch the scream of frustration that is trying to burst forth.

Quietly Into The Night by James Cox

Rylan is an assassin, a very good assassin, he always gets his targets as long as they deserve the punishment. His new assignment isn't going to be easy, getting to a man who is paranoid about security will be a challenge, but when Rylan meets Gold and Loxy he is determined to take out the Leader even if he dies trying.

This is a great science fiction, erotica story that is entertaining, has action and is sexy. Rylan is alone, it's just him and his ship, having friends or relationships is impossible in his line of work as an assassin but he doesn't let it get to him. When he takes on his latest assignment he gets a lot more than he bargained for and he finally loses his heart. But he is a killer and can't let his new loves be tainted by his job. Gold is sweet and beautiful he's had a crush on Loxy for ages but has never been allowed to act on it, meeting Rylan gives Gold the push to finally act on his desire. Loxy spends the night with Rylan and finds himself in major trouble, Rylan comes rushing to the rescue and Loxy finally finds the happiness he wanted with Gold and Rylan.

This is a great little lovefest with danger, escapes and rescues littering the story. Rylan is a great character who loves what he does, Gold seems like a shy standoffish character until you learn his background and Loxy is slightly sneaky but with good intentions. All the characters are great and extremely sexual, one again James Cox has woven a wonderful mix of science fiction and erotica. The story flows well with lots of sexual tension and escapades to heat the blood, there's daring escapes and rescues that has your heart pounding and a developing love that is sweet and sexy... oh and I won't even mention the f**k machine :-).

I recommend this to those that want a sexual short that is enjoyable to read, a good dose of sci-fi with some danger thrown in, sex hot enough and plentiful enough to have you fanning yourself and clenching your thighs and an ending that has you sighing at it's sweetness.

Jake is still dealing with the death of his lover and returns to his hometown to escape the memories of his lost love, but, returning to his mothers has old memories of an abusive father which Jake finds equally hard to deal with. With warring memories which Jake needs to let go of he is pulled into a nightmare when people are being brutally murdered and he meets an attractive cop Kris. Kris is attracted to Jake when he meets the out of town cop and they are on the cusp of something special when Jake begins to make wild assertions about the murderer. Kris and Jake must work together to remove the threat from the community, but with Kris' doubts about the murderers identity will they really be strong enough to combat an evil that is centuries old?

This is a pretty good dark paranormal/horror story that draws us back to the old style evil vampires, with a budding romance thrown in. Jake lost his lover to cancer seven months ago and can't escape the memories, he takes time off work as a cop to return to his mom's to heal. Jake also has to face the memories of his past as his fathers abuse still haunts him, but something more important crops up when he notices odd behavior and he links it to the murders in town. Kris is the low man at the police station, he is gay and has to keep it hidden in a small town, when he meets Jake he is attracted to him and they hit it off. Kris has to trust Jake when the sheriff calls for his arrest, but he finds it hard to believe that something evil is hunting in his town.

This story follows Jake as he returns to his hometown, it is mainly from Jake's perspective but we also see it from others perspectives at pivotal moments, it doesn't affect the flow of the story and gives us better insight into what is going on. Jake is weighed down by memories but is trying to deal with them all, laying his past to rest in his old childhood home is hard to do though and he gets caught up in his new friends rather than spend time with his mother. When he and Kris meet the attraction Jake feels overwhelms him a little, but we see a relationship begin to develop that Jake isn't sure he really wants so soon after the death of his partner. Kris is a really nice character and he seems to suit Jake quite well.

The horror/dark paranormal side of the story is nicely done, we are treated to a couple of spine tingles as the dark evil plagues the town and no one has a clue what is happening. There was the usual disbelief even when the truth smacked some characters in the faces, and there was a fantastic showdown that had me wondering if one of them wouldn't make it. The vampire aspect was very old world type, dark and evil, leaving a bloody path behind him, turning those who are useful and fully enjoying the carnage he leaves behind. Between that and Kris and Jake's relationship I quite enjoyed this story but felt that it was bogged down by some details (Jake's non-dealings with memories of his father) that don't get addressed or dealt with.

I recommend this to those who love dark fantasy, horror, new beginnings and new relationships, hot sex, bloody deaths, saving a town from dark danger and a sweet and sexy ending.

This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Jack and Riley have decided to extend their family, they go the surrogacy route but every step of the way they find something new to worry about. Nothing ever goes smoothly for them so they are just waiting for something to go wrong, but things seem to just fall into place. As they prepare for the extended family they meet a little boy with learning difficulties and both Riley and Jack fall under his charm, but with the surrogacy under way can they hope to adopt the sweet little boy as well?

Ohhh this is a beautiful mix of family, hope and steamy sex, mixed together to give us another incredible story in the Texas series. Riley and Jack are hopeful but their nerves keep getting the better of them, they lean on each other as they go through the process of surrogacy and getting ready for a larger family. Their relationship is as strong as ever, with them always making time for just them, or for Hayley and their other relations, making sure that none of their family is left out.

This is a very normal story for Jack and Riley, nobody is out to get them and there are no unexpected surprises or enemies. We just see a couple moving forward with their lives, facing the normal strain, stresses and worries of extending a family while juggling the lives they already have. We see the continued love and support between Riley and Jack and the explosive sex and sensual love-making that they enjoy oh so much.

We also see Beth and Steve and what is going on with their lives, we see Eden and Sean going through a rough time and we also see Robbie and Eli and their happiness. We are introduced to a couple of new people that we will see in a future book and I really can't wait to see what is coming next, R.J. Scott has a way of bringing these characters to life and making us care about what happens to them.

I recommend this to those who love cowboys and city slickers who are in love, adorable children, celebrations and joy, hot sex, sweet moments and a pure happy ending.

This book is part of a series and is best read in order. When Trev was handed over to his new master, when he was chosen for the lottery, he was worried but that worry soon turned to love, now heading for Earth with Yanai he wants his feelings returned or he wants his freedom. Yanai is besotted with his human and will do anything for him, but Trev always seems to reject what is offered and Yanai does the only thing he can think of... he lets Trev go. Can Yanai and Trev overcome their miscommunication of their customs or is it too late for them to share their love with each other?

So in this new addition to the Owned series Trev has already been with his owner for nearly a year, so the relationship is already well established but that doesn't mean that everything is perfect.... far from it. Trev wants more than to be a beloved pet to Yanai so when Yanai refuses to give Trev his heart Trev asks to be released when they reach Earth. Yanai is devastated when Trev wants to leave him but his only other option would be to give Trev his heart... and he can't live without it.

It soon becomes clear to us that there are huge misunderstandings going on between the two lovers, even after nearly a year neither really knows much about the others customs and it takes a while and also some nagging from the gray men for Trev to realize it isn't all Yanai's fault either. Now while they both try to reconcile and express themselves in a way the other fully understands there is more going on in the background of the story. Yanai wins another human in the lottery which Trev is unhappy about, but they have much more to be concerned about when the Pressian's turn up demanding the return of Trev.

I really love this series because with each one we are introduced to more information about the Pressian's and their subjugation of the Eoeans, but finally we are given a hint that maybe the Pressian's bullying might be coming to an end. Trev and Yanai are wonderful characters who are incredibly in love with each other they just didn't know how to communicate with each other, they are an incredible hot couple who burn up the sheets and give us some really hot sex. We see characters from Bound By Deception, and you even warm up to the gray men after a while because they certainly develop as we see more of them.

I have to recommend this to those who love aliens and humans falling in love, reconciling after misunderstandings, hot sex, passionate love, a desperate escape and a wonderful romantic, hot and sexy ending.

Daniel is called by an old friend, to help catalog some priceless old artworks that were discovered in a cave after an earthquake. But after examine the find, he bangs his head during another earthquake and wakes to find himself in 1497, less than two weeks before the infamous Bonfire of the Vanities.

This is a wonderfully written novella, which takes us back in time, mixing fact with fiction, to give us a wonderful story that will warm your heart. Daniel has been fascinated with a drawing that Leonardo di Vinci drew of a young man, now after waking up he comes face to face with the young man… who posed five hundred years before. Gio (Giacopo) is on his way to his mother’s when he comes across a man who has been attacked (or so he thinks), but the man wears strange clothes and has strange card shaped things in his possession, but he trusts the man who will help them save works of art from Savonarola.

I will be honest and say that we don’t see much of the relationship between Daniel and Gio being built, but they are spending most of their time trying to save works of art. There is a connection between them though and they are quite passionate together, although we don’t get any great detail, what we do see is passionate. The storyline is brilliant, and there were parts that had my breath hitching in worry, would Daniel get to Gio in time? Would they survive the earthquake? And what will happen once Daniel returned to the future?

All I can say is that it was quite an exciting Time-Travel story that was woven beautifully, giving us a fascinating tale of how and why works of art were secreted away, and the story of what really happened to Leonardo di Vinci’s apprentice. So I highly recommend this if you love history, time-travel, danger, art and a happy ever after.

Adam reaches breaking point during the after party of the final concert of the tour for his rock band Black Varen, he jumps in the back of a cab and ends up at a childhood vacation spot. He awakens the next morning on the patio of the closed lake resort to a grumpy artist who wants him gone. Miles is a recluse, he has his art and occasional visits from his sister and two best friends and that is all he wants, but coming across a hungover man on his patio is the beginning of a shake up in his well ordered life. Two men, one private and one in the public eye must both find the courage to grab hold of love and never let go.

Adam and Miles are two different people, ones a famous rock star the other is a reclusive artist but they come together during a near idyllic time, learning each others quirks and discovering the wants and needs of each other... but what happens when the outside world encroaches and Adam has to go back in the limelight? Adam has to go back to playing the game and Miles' insecurities come out to play.

Miles is a complex character, his circumstances unfold throughout the story and we discover the enormous changes to his character from when he was a carefree, confident young man to the grumpy recluse he has become. Adam is more than just a rock star, he first started out in musicals and that's where he wants to return to. While Miles is content with his safe space, Adam has him hoping for more and Miles begins to slowly work on coming out of his safe haven. Adam is locked into his own cycle which includes drinking, drugs and partying and it takes a near brush with death for him to finally get stock of his life.

This is a great story, with interesting characters who entertain and confuse. Miles and Adam make a brilliant easy couple when they are at the lake resort but become frayed quickly when they are apart. Some of Adam's choices was pretty pathetic, falling back into his old routine with no real concern about how it would look to Miles and he was easily convinced to party and do drugs when he at first refused. Miles had good reason for his doubts with the way Adam was acting and I think he made the right choice to distance himself from Adam, forcing Adam to think about what he really wanted. Both men face their own challenges together and alone making them stronger as a couple and on their own.

I recommend this to those who love great stories of opposites attracting, overcoming your own fears, corralling impulses and taking control of addictions, developing love and hot sex and a wonderful ending.

Bren is on the run with an angel, he is running for his life after being told he is part God and a homicidal God wants the powers he will develop. The only good to come out of his new found knowledge is his protector Dar, the hunky angel, who Bren has fallen in love with. Dar knows full well that Bren is holding enormous power that is just waiting to be tapped into, but being chased down isn't making it easy to train Bren. Calling in Gods to assist in protecting and training Bren is easier said than done, but protecting the demigod he has fallen in love with is his most challenging task yet.

This is a pretty good paranormal/fantasy story that entertains with its gods and goddess', power struggles and god fights. The first thing I will say about this story is it shouldn't have been titled 'Strange Angels' it should have been titled 'Strange Gods' because these Gods are strange. Bren lived his life as a simple human before being attacked and rescued by Dar, but now he is a demigod in waiting on an adventure that takes him through gods dimensions and meeting temperamental gods some who want to destroy him.

We don't really see much of Bren and Dar's relationship other than charge and protector, but we have brief moments where we discover how close they are either through words or actions. This story is all about Bren and his struggle to gain control of his powers while dodging the gods who want the power for themselves. We meet an interesting selection of strange gods and there are some humorous moments, there are also attacks and some power struggles and mini battles as the gods choose sides.

I recommend this to those who enjoy angels and gods, a love that is strong and fierce, some humor, interesting characters, a great storyline filled with danger and a touch of angst and a really sweet ending.

This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Simon is co-chairing the latest convention for Charles Dickens' uncompleted novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, in Dickens Junction, the Droodists have come out in force, a wide selection of characters who love Charles Dickens work. Simon has his hands full with the activities but when a theft occurs of a priceless ring it is only the beginning of a week of murder, mystery and intrigue.

This is a great mystery story of the old fashioned sort, Miss Marple and Poirot spring to mind when reading The Edwin Drood Murders, taking you to a quaint town where a mystery falls into Simon's lap. The story starts out with Simon asking his boyfriend Zach an all important question but being put off for the time being until Zach has time to think about it, then Simon sets off for the convention. We are then treated to an interesting array of characters as all the players arrive at the hotel and some of them are not quite what they seem.

The mystery we are led on has us wondering what will happen next, has us guessing which suspicious character could be the culprit and what others are hiding. We discover horrendous and surprising murders and are left puzzled as to why the thefts occurred, and at the last, we appreciate Simon's fine mind at putting the puzzle together and explaining the fine details we overlooked. Simon's relationship with Zach plays out in the background, their loving relationship making itself known without any overt gestures. Simon does have his moments of insecurity at Zach's refusal to instantly accept his offer of moving in but it doesn't affect his relationship in the least.

This is a wonderfully written story that is an easy story to read and keeps you gripped with it's storyline, we connect with the characters as we get to know them and we mourn along with Simon in places. Each character has their own unique personality and while we take some to heart, we keep a suspicious eye on others but they all come together to keep your attention on the pages of this book.

I recommend this to those who love Dickens, mysteries, great characters, intriguing discoveries, a sweet relationship and a wonderful ending.

Oliver is called by the dead to find their killers and assists the police in locating dead bodies, his contact is Detective Langham a man he has found himself falling in love with but he doesn't even know if Langham is gay. Oliver finds himself in the middle of a field after answering the call of a dead woman, soon after he is chased and driven off the road and Oliver knows it is the killer. Langham and Oliver work closer than ever before to track down the killer and the mystery of the sugar strands, and as more bodies pile up and suspicion is rampant, Langham makes his move and makes it clear to Oliver just how gay he is.

This story has a great premise of a psychic helping the police solve murders, but I found it sadly lacking in some areas. Oliver goes when the voices call, he goes to the bodies of the recently murdered and he helps the police locate the killers, but this new murder hits closer to home when he realizes he interrupted the killer. Oliver is also in love with his police contact Langham and it is an awkward dance as the two finally change their relationship in the midst of the investigation. There is also the chase to catch the killer as more people are murdered in brutal fashion, it is gory and bloody, and they discover that children are being experimented on.

The relationship between Langham and Oliver was confusing at first because they were constantly picking at each other and cursing each other out, I would not have called it a friendship at all, but then Oliver explains it is just the way they are with each other. Their relationship heats up as they work closely together and they track the leads, they face some homophobia from a fellow detective but don't let it effect what is developing between them. The one thing that got me more than anything was that we never learn Langham's first name, Oliver only ever calls him Langham and even thinks of him that way all the time and it made me feel the lack of real intimacy between them.

I really wanted to love this story because the blurb pulled me right in but I just couldn't. The storyline and plot was pretty good with the mystery of the murders and who was behind it all, and the investigation into the murder/s was exciting and intriguing, but, (and this is where I vent like a teenager) I gather that the setting is in England and while the author has done a fair job with the investigation she should have watched reruns of The Bill (an old British cop show) or A Touch Of Frost (British CID drama) to see the real workings of the 'Detectives' in England. (CID is the Criminal Investigation Department or Coppers In Disguise LOL)

I will recommend this to those who don't have a clue about British police, who love psychic's and murder investigations, love mystery and mayhem, a relationship that is both frustrating and passionate and a pretty good ending.
