Tobias is a mouse shifter, a household slave and he is given a message to pass on to the gladiator trainer, but he gets more than he bargained for when he comes across a predatory shifter who is his mate. Cassisus is a gladiator, a tiger shifter trained to fight and he doesn’t quite understand what his tiger is playing at when it wants to claim a mouse for a mate, but he accepts the bond, not caring that they are from different worlds or that they are shaking up the hierarchy. But danger lurks when some shifters don’t want the status quo changed and decide to put a stop to the ‘troublemakers’.

This is a great new series that has a different slant on the world; shifters became known to the humans and are now slaves. Laws are in place to ‘protect’ the shifters and there is a strict hierarchy for the predators and the non-predators, but what happens on the rare occasions that a shifter finds a mate? And, what if that mate is of a different social standing? This is what happens to Tobias and Cassisus and it doesn’t help that Tobias isn’t even sure that he wants a mate to begin with, there might be the beginnings of a bond forming, but being another shifters slave isn’t his idea of fun.

I loved this new series and its characters, the way that the world is described and how the hierarchy is explained. Tobias might be a mouse and his position hammered into him at a young age, but it turns out that he isn’t quite as meek as he seems, Cassisus might be a tiger and he is vain about his position as a gladiator, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want something of his own, something that’s just his and no one else’s. The world that Cassisus and Tobias live in is very strict, and their mating places burdens on their masters’ shoulder and their master already has enough burdens in place. Their relationship is far from easy at first and they have further bumps in the road, keeping secrets ends up biting Tobias on the arse, but their love endures and they really are hot together.

I will recommend this to those who love shifters, shifters shaking up the hierarchy, great characters, falling in love, hot sex, making mistakes and forgiveness… and don’t forget the happy ending.
